Previewing Repositories

The preview tool is used to generate a list of formats and counts for a repository that hasn’t been indexed yet. Using this list, admins can make informed decisions about which Agent to use, which pipeline steps will be necessary, and approximate indexing effort.

Note: The preview tool only ‘Scans’ the repository, it does not extract any of the contents. This means that formats that contain other files or links within them aren’t followed or scanned. This may lead to a mis-match between the preview count and the final count when indexing is performed.

An example of this could be a zipped folder, where the preview would count it as a single file, but it may hold many within.

 How to Generate a Preview

  1. From the Repository List page, use the action menu to select the preview option.

Alternatively, from the repo status section, use the preview button to initiate a preview generation.

  2. Once the preview is complete, the repo list will display a new icon next to the count of documents that were found.

  3. Clicking on this count or viewing the status section will show a list of formats and their respective counts.

  4. When indexing is performed, this preview is removed.
