Using the Pulse Analytic Dashboard

The Pulse Dashboard is a new feature that displays information about who is accessing the index and how they are using it. It is currently only accessible to users that have permission to access HQ.

How To Access

From HQ, use the user dropdown to select the Open Pulse action.

 

Alternatively, Pulse is hosted on the same port as HQ, but at the path “/pulse” instead of “/app”, by default.

Dashboard

After logging in, the dashboard will be accessible. On this page, there are several cards that display summaries of index interactions. 

The Pulse Dashboard displays informational cards. Each card has three parts:   

  1. Type — such as “Number”, “Table” or “Chart”.

  2. Action(s) — such as “Searches”, “Logins”, and “Downloads”.  

  3. Date Range — the dates that the data is sourced from; each of the cards has the option to modify the timespan for which they pull information

Card Dates can be modified by clicking on the date range. There are “Common” date ranges defined to quickly set the start and end dates. Otherwise, use the Custom Range tab to set specific dates.

Table Cards

Table Cards have the option to download the displayed information by clicking on the menu icon at the upper right corner. In this specific table, the action can be changed by using the dropdown in the title.

Table Cards also have the option to switch which metric is being shown.

Line Chart Cards

Line chart cards have the option to save the chart as a .png by right-clicking on the chart itself and selecting the Save Image As option. Users can also hover over points within the line chart to display the exact number at that point. If there are multiple items displayed in the legend, then clicking the item in the legend will hide or show that item in the chart. The chart will automatically update the scales to reflect these changes.

Calendar Cards

Calendar cards do not have date ranges, instead they always show the entire month selected. You can change the month by either using the arrows on either side or by clicking on the month at the top of the calendar. Days that are shaded have some amount of activity. The darker the shade, the more activity there is, relative to the other days in that month.

Explorer

Most cards have the ability to click on portions of the card to bring up the Explorer view for that element. Clicking on the Expand icon at the upper right corner of a card will bring up the Explorer View, where all of the entries that the card draws from will be displayed in a “raw” form. The explorer is a way to drill down to specific data points. Using the filter bars at the top, enter filter text and press enter. Clicking the filter icon will allow different types of filter functions.

Users can hide or show columns using the dropdown at the bottom right of the explorer table.

 

Using the Export button, users can export the data that is currently viewed in the table.

Due to the potential size of an export, only one can be run at a time across all users of Pulse. After one is created, it is available to download as a csv.
